Current News: George Zimmerman Case

This one is going to be a bit different. My past posts so far have dealt with past/closed cases. I admit that I have not completely kept up on this case, I have gotten bits and pieces.  How can you not?  It is rare that you can turn the television or the Internet on and not see something about this case. Here's what I do know: On February 2, 2012 17 year old Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by George Zimmerman.  Zimmerman was armed with a 9mm gun and Trayvon was armed with Skittles and iced tea.  It was IMMEDIATELY known that it was Zimmerman.  He had called the police before approaching Trayvon as a member of a neighborhood watch reporting he found him suspicious.  The police asked if he was following Trayvon and when he said he was the police told him not to.  Zimmerman states that when he approached Trayvon he was hit, pushed to the ground and beaten to which he shot in self defense.  Trayvon died..... Scott Peterson Case

Undisputed Facts: 1 . On December 24, 2002 Laci Peterson, a pregnant wife, was reported missing in Modesto, California. 2.  Laci's due date was February 10, 2003 and Laci and her husband, Scott planned to name the boy Conner . 3.  It was learned that Scott Peterson was having an affair with a woman by the name of Amber Frey and it was likely he had many other affairs during his time with Laci. 4. When Amber Frey learned that Scott Peterson was not who she thought he was (she claims she knew nothing about him being married) she allowed her phone and herself to be wired for the police.  This was in attempts to get Peterson to confess to the killing of his pregnant wife, he did not do this. 5.  During one of the taped called to Amber Frey, Peterson claimed to be at a New Years Eve celebration in Paris, proclaiming his love to Amber.  Reality was that he was at a vigil in Modesto. 6. The Casey Anthony Case

Undisputed Facts: 1.  On July 15, 2008, Florida 9-1-1 received a call from Cindy Anthony to report her granddaughter, Caylee Anthony, missing.  Cindy also tells the operator that her daughter, Casey, says she has not seen Casey in 31 days and in the heat of the emotion she announces that the car Casey drives smells like a "dead body" had been in the trunk. 2. Casey got on the phone with the police and announced that she had not seen her daughter in the 31 days and that the last she saw her she was with her nanny, who either Casey referred to or the media picked up the spin of "Zanny the Nanny." 3. Between July  and October, Casey continually kept telling different stories as to the last time she saw Caylee as well has lied to the police about her place of employment and people involved in her life. 4. West Memphis Three Case

Undisputed Facts: 1. On May 5, 1993, three eight year old boys, Steven (Stevie) Branch, Christopher Byers and Michael Moore, were reported missing by their parents in West Memphis, Arkansas. 2. The following day the bodies of the three boys were found in a creek in a forest area near their home. 3. The cause of death of the boys was simply listed as multiple injuries. 4. Investigators proclaimed the crime to be of satanic means.  5. Two days after the bodies were found, local teenager, Damian Echols, was interviewed and given a polygraph test.  (The results of which have been questioned) 6. On June 3, 1993, while Damian is still under the radar of the police, another teenager, Jessie Misskelley was interviewed by the police.  He was ultimately interviewed for over 12 hours and given a lie detector test.  Only 46 minutes of the interrogation was recorded.   7. The Susan Polk Case

Undisputed Facts: 1. On October 14, 2002 the body of Dr. Felix Polk was found in the pool house of his home in California. He and his wife Susan were going through a divorce at the time. 2. Felix and his wife, Susan, met when she was 14 years old, in 1972, when Susan's mother began sending her daughter to Felix for therapy for panic attacks. 3.  Felix and Susan were married in 1982 and had three sons: Adam, Eli and Gabriel. At the time of the marriage Felix was 50 and Susan was 24. 4. Susan's first trial for the murder of her husband ended in a mistrial when the wife of her attorney, Daniel Horowitz, was found dead in her home. 5. Susan represented herself in her second trial.  Sons Adam and Gabriel testified for the prosecution, son, Eli, testified for the defense. 6. The Betty Broderick Case

Undisputed Facts: 1. On November 5, 1989, Betty Broderick, using a key that belong to her daughter, went into the home of her ex-husband Dan Broderick and shot and killed Dan and his new wife, Linda, in their bed. 2. Betty and Dan were married April 12, 1969.  They had four children together.  Betty worked and helped Dan first through medical school and then later law school.   3. In the early 1980's Betty suspected Dan was having an affair with his secretary, Linda Kolkena, to which Dan repeatedly denied ( These issues have been confirmed through people who knew the victims, including children).  After three years of denying the affair and proclaiming to Betty and others, that she was crazy, Dan admitted to the affair, filed for a restraining order and filed for divorce.  This was 1985. 4. Four years later, on January 30,  1989 the divorce was finally final and Dan and Linda were married April 22, 1989 (note that April 12th would have been Dan and...
