True Crime Stories

It is always fun for me when I read a book or research a case in which geographical areas that are discussed are places in which I have lived at least near and I know the area.  This is just such a case.  I have known about this case for a while, although admittedly I do not recall hearing about it when it happened.  Then again, for one, although I enjoyed true crime I was not as into it then as I am now, and for two, I probably did not even know for sure where Peru Indiana was at the time.   Currently I am reading the book Deadly Seduction by Wensley Clarkson.  This is the second of his books that I am reading and while I think his books are decent I also think due to his publishing company they are often rushed.  The company thrives on true crime novels and seem to want to be the first to publish so I have found sometimes not only are they a bit liberal on facts but they do not have the entire story because for instance the book I read prior took place ...

This is one of those case that when you hear it, it sticks with you.  It is not your average, run of the mill true crime case.  And, yes, sadly, those of us who are very much into true crime do see what we consider to be just that, run of the mill.  Even in terms of parents who have murdered their children, this case stands out. If you are a true crime buff, like myself, and you have heard of this case, you most likely first heard about it through the words of Theresa "Terry" Knorr.  She became a staple of telling this story when it came out.  Sadly, for years Terry told anyone who she thought would or should have listened the story of how her mother, Theresa, with the help of her brothers, William and Robert, murdered two of her sisters.  While the murders were the most vile thing that was done while growing up in the household, it was hardly the only thing that Terry, her sisters, or even the brothers who would later help their mother murder their siste...

As I was going through one of my many lists that lay around my house with names of cases to look up at some point I came across Andrea Yates. I have been known from time to time to have names twice or not mark one off my list so when one pops up that I am surprised I have not blogged about yet I go back and double check, as I did with this one. Sure enough I found that I had not done this story yet. Part of me wondered why considering it is a high profile case that is still discussed often in the many groups that I am a member of around the Internet.  Then I reminded myself the controversy that still surrounds this case, some fifteen years later.  There are those who adamantly believe that Andrea Yates was of sound mind when she drowned her five children and is pure evil.  I believe the only thing that could change these peoples minds would be for them to experience life with a mentally disabled person (whether it be themselves or someone close to them) and deal...
