True Crime Stories

Most of you will notice that this case is off the beaten path for me.  Depending on your stance on the case, you may or may not see this as a murder case. Whichever side you take, or took at the time, can also determine if you think a crime was even committed at all.  Then again there are people on both sides of this argument who will say a crime WAS committed... but they see them as different crimes. So why am I posting in a true crime blog about this case?  For a few reasons actually.  For one as I stated above some do see a crime as being committed and while that crime does or does not have to be murder it could still be considered a crime. I have a new goal now.  Instead of going months at a time without working on my blog and then spending several weeks or a month doing nothing but working on it and allowing my genealogy to fall behind I have decided that Sunday is the day that I will work on this.  Now, that does not mean that I will be necessarily posting every week because it depends on my mood.  I have several now ready to type up from my research but I did not necessarily post them when I did them because I was not "feeling it." It seems so often when you watch things like Dateline and 48 Hours you are hearing the same stories over and over.  There are a few that the second I know what story it is I turn the channel because I am just sick to death of hearing about it. You do not really get to hear about some of the old cases that "stole" headlines very much.  Then every so often you will catch a show about an old case, or better yet someone decides to make a movie about it.  While I learned a long time ago to never take a television show and their portrayal at face value when it comes to a case, that goes double for movies.  In fact quite often "true story" movies make me mad because it always seems they have to alter facts to make them more interesting for viewers, or even simply change facts for apparently no reason at all.  The movie Lincoln is a good example of this.  After it was released the state of Connecticut was upset because through the movie they had voted against ...

When it comes to child abductions and murders, there are two that likely are first to come to mind to just about anyone who was alive and remembers them... Adam Walsh and Polly Klaas.  Why is that? Well part of it surely is because they seemed to especially gruesome crimes but there is another reason.  Both of the victim's fathers, John Walsh and Marc Klaas, not only fought for justice for their own children but they also proceeded to change policies in how abducted children are looked for as well as fought for justice in other missing/abducted/murdered children cases. When Adam Walsh was abducted and murdered in 1981 there was very little known in how to handle an abducted child and the Walsh family all but had to wing it.  In 1993 when Polly Klaas was abducted from inside her home, things had come a long way since 1981, but not nearly far enough. When I work on my blog I tend to do it for a few weeks to a month and then I do not mess with it for several months other than to moderate comments or check the progress from time to time.  When I am not working on this my time is occupied with genealogy.  I really should find a more equal ground in doing both. So after working on this for a month or so I had decided that I was going to finish the research up on this one last case and put it in the pile with the others that are ready to be typed up and back away for a bit as my genealogy tends to stack up daily.  And then I started really getting into this case and decided I had to bring it to it's conclusion and see if I could not get some feedback on how others feels.  As a true crime "fanatic" I had obviously heard of "The Lipstick Killer" before but to be honest I had not really looked into the case until now.
