David Hollis

This may prove to be one of the shortest blogs that I have written. There is not a lot of information to be found about this case but it is one that for if no other reason should be remembered for the victims. David Hollis was twenty-one years old in early 1982. He had a young daughter, who was said to be “just over two” at the time. David and his wife, Debra, who was eighteen at the time had separated in November of 1981. In January Debra filed for divorce. One can only assume after hearing what happened next that the marriage was likely riddled with domestic violence. Debra and her daughter, Nina, lived in an apartment in Hammond Indiana with another, unnamed as I could find, woman. On February 27, 1982 Debra was being visited by a neighbor, eighteen year old Kim Mezei along with Kim's two year old son, Craig. David entered the home and by the time he left, Debra, Kim and Craig were all dead. Debra had been stabbed several times and all three victims were strangled. ...

Linda Darby

This is a case that I came across while watching Deadly Women . Once again it is a case that I am surprised I had not heard of before that point, not just because it occurred in my state of Indiana, but also because in 2007 Linda Darby was captured after thirty-five years on the lam. I know you hear me say this often, but this blog is going to be a little bit different than most, if any, that I have done. This is not a case in which I have a lot of details, or shall we say, true facts. All that I have been able to gather have solely come from television shows and news articles, all but one of which would be written nearly forty years after the crime. That being said I was still intrigued with the case, not just because Linda Darby escaped and eluded capture for so long but also by legal decisions that have been made since that time. Charles Darby was from the area of Ashland Kentucky. How he made his way from there to the area of Hammond Indiana is unknown. But, by 1970 ...

D. C. Stephenson

I wanted to change courses a little bit from some of the cases that I have been blogging about recently. Doing old cases, such as one like this, can often prove to be difficult. Often the information is contradictory if not flat out false and it can sometimes be a challenge to determine what is the truth. So I end up looking at many more sites than I normally would, often just to clear up why one site said one thing and another said something else. And sometimes I do not even need to go further when even the same site shows me proof. For example in this case I had read that associates of D.C Stephenson were also charged with murder, among other things and were acquitted at trial. Then there was an article by a reputable news outlet that claimed differently. However, right there in the article were photos of the newspaper accounts in 1925 that stated the men had been acquitted. Now, I am going to be fair in saying that while there were several charges against ...

The Murder of Paul Komyatti Sr.

This case is an example of a group effort when it comes to murder. This was not a bunch of teenage kids who had a beef against someone and a fight got out of hand. This was not even a situation where some underground crime group ordered a hit on someone. No, this was a case in which a woman, her son, her daughter and her son-in-law would all apparently basically sit around the table and plot the murder of her husband. It was said they actually had several ideas and had attempted at least a few but had failed. In the end they were finally able to commit the murder but obviously not without getting caught or I would not be here telling you the story. On March 20, 1983 sixty-two year old Paul Komyatti Sr. would be murdered in his bed in his Hammond Indiana home. Within two and a half years his wife, son and daughter would be in prison and his son in law would be dead after the state had executed him. At the time of his murder Paul lived with his wife, Rosemary, his...
