The Murder of Jeanine Nicarico

As I stated in the blog about Robert Anthony Buell, this case is similar in nature, however, in this case two innocent men were sent to death row. This case was cited by then Governor George Ryan as one of the main reasons that when he left office in 2003 he commuted all death sentences in Illinois. For the next eight years the state of Illinois would sentence fifteen more people to death row, including the true perpetrator in this case, but in 2011 the death penalty was officially abolished and once again those sentences were commuted to life without parole. This is also a case in which prosecutors and investigators would later face charges of their own for misconduct in the pursuit and prosecution of three men. On February 25, 1983 ten year old Jeanine Nicarico remained home from school alone suffering from the flu. I know, I know, today this would likely be unheard of but in 1983 everyone felt safe, especially in the town of Napersville Illinois and telephone ca...

On the evening of July 1, 1987 Kell Illinois resident, ten year old Amy Schulz, would go out to find her brother who was looking for their dog that had run off to let him know the dog had returned. The problem was Amy would be the one who did not return. The following morning a worker from a nearby oil field just outside the nearby town of Dix would find Amy's body. An autopsy would uncover an unimaginable horror. Amy's body would be found nude, covered in dirt and face down on an access road out in the middle of no where. There was a shoe print left on her back and a pool of blood around her head indicating that her murder had occurred in that spot. An autopsy would determine that Amy had suffered from a 14.5 cm wound from the middle of her through to behind her right ear. It had cut through the muscle and severed her carotid artery and jugular vein. She would also have a cut above her left eye, bruises to her brain, a fractured rib and a torn liver. There ...

I have been doing this blog since 2012 and this is my 341 st entry and yet I think of all the crimes that I have researched and compiled this has to be one of the, if not the, worse one. I have done many crimes involving the murders of children and they are all difficult to do. Most deliberate murders are senseless but never more so than the murder of a child. And, even still knowing this, this crime seemed even more senseless than the others. Six year old Shenosha Richards was apparently murdered for nothing more than the thrill of the kill. This was not a little girl who had upset her murderers in any way; this was not a baby that cried and got on someone's last nerve; this was not a child who was murdered by a parent or a caregiver. This was simply an innocent girl who was playing in a park and was lured by the promise of seeing a movie by someone she knew. At first I was thinking it could in some way compare to the infamous crime of Leopold and Loeb in which they k...
